Volunteer Hampton Roads and the Hampton Roads Chamber committed to working together to increase regional corporate volunteerism.

Volunteer Hampton Roads became an affiliate of the chamber, effective Jan. 1, and moved its office from Virginia Wesleyan University into the chamber’s downtown Norfolk office at 101 W. Main St., Suite 800.

Hampton Roads Chamber President and CEO Bryan Stephens said in a news release that the pro-business organization strongly believes volunteerism is vital to the region’s success.

“Giving back is always good for business, but it’s essential for the more than 6,900 nonprofit organizations that need our support as they serve some of the most vulnerable residents in the 757,” Stephens said.

Volunteer Hampton Roads CEO Stephanie Gorham said in the release that volunteerism affects businesses in numerous ways — from assisting employers with recruitment and retention to boosting employee morale. In addition to providing training and coordinating large-scale projects, the nonprofit matches community volunteers and skills with nonprofit jobs through an online platform.

“We look forward to helping businesses in our region realize those far-reaching benefits and more,” Gorham said.
