Ramon W. Breeden Honored with Order of the Crossed Sabres Award

Charlottesville, Va., Nov. 27, 2023 — The Virginia Alumni Football Club has awarded Ramon W. Breeden Jr. this year with the Order of the Crossed Sabres Award. Created in 2004, this award is the club’s highest award given annually in recognition of exemplary service, selfless commitment and extraordinary impact on Cavalier Football. It was presented to Mr. Breeden and his wife, Lucy, on Saturday, Nov. 25, as a part of an on-field presentation during the University of Virginia (UVA) home game against Virginia Tech University.

“We are so appreciative of the generosity that Mr. Breeden and Lucy have shown through their contribution in support of the Department of Athletics and the McIntire School of Commerce,” the Virginia Alumni Football Club stated in a letter.

Earlier this year, Mr. Breeden donated $50 million to UVA, his alma mater. The Breeden Company founder has given to support the future of business education and athletics at the university to be evenly divided between funding for the McIntire Expansion Project and the Virginia Athletics Master Plan. When combined with $25 million in matching funds for the McIntire project, the gift will have a total impact of $75 million.

“His gift will have a tremendous impact on the University as a whole, as well as on our student-athletes, coaches and staff for years to come,” the Virginia Alumni Football Club letter continued.
