Girl Scouts Earn STEM Badges with the Help of Newport News Shipbuilding, Virginia Air and Space Center, and others at STEM Extravaganza

Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast (GSCCC) held a STEM Extravaganza on May 21 in Newport News, VA where girls of all age levels participated in STEM activities and had fun earning STEM badges. Seven of GSCCC’s program partners, Navy Federal Credit Union, Norfolk Naval Station, Society of Women Engineers, Virginia Air and Space Center, Endview Plantation, Newport News Police Dept., and Newport News Shipbuilding, hosted activities for girls to learn the different aspects of STEM. Each organization supported the event and had representatives there to engage girls in STEM program activities.  From fingerprint lifting and learning about Morse code to building robots with cubelets and snap circuits, girls were introduced to STEM concepts in a fun and interactive way!

Getting girls involved in STEM activities is an important part of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience. In addition to introducing girls to STEM in a fun way, activities encourage and support critical thinking skills and instills a passion for a lifetime of innovation! We need more dreamers and doers! Get your girl involved in STEM today. Sign up for some of the STEM opportunities offered by GSCCC this fall. Visit gsccc.org to get started!
