Grand Opening Celebration Held May 21

Virginia Beach, VA (May 22, 2026)— A new era of pickleball has come to the Timberlake Shopping Center in Virginia Beach with the grand opening of the Palace of Pickleball (PoP), a premier indoor facility opening yesterday. Designed to bring community, wellness and high-quality play together under one roof, PoP aims to meet the growing demand for dedicated indoor courts in Hampton Roads.

“The Palace of Pickleball is about creating a space where our community can connect, stay healthy, and feel like they belong all under one roof,” said Lisa Cardona, PoP founder and operating principal.

Palace of Pickleball was founded by Lisa Cardona after she suffered heat stroke from playing pickleball outside during the heatwave in the summer of 2025 and recognized the growing demand for indoor pickleball space.

More than a sports venue, PoP is designed as a social hub where pickleball’s communal nature helps turn strangers into friends and created connection both on and off the court.

“Pickleball completely changed my life,” Cardona said. “I fell in love with the sport, but even more than that, I fell in love with the way it brings people together.”

The facility features seven regulation-size courts with CushionX surfaces engineered for joint support, along with amenities including keyless entry for VIP members, locker rooms, a private party room, retail merchandise and healthier vending options. The space is expected to accommodate up to 400 players daily, with projections of 150,000 visits annually.

Royal Reserve memberships are currently available at 10% off opening prices. PoP is also seeking partnerships with local businesses interested in engaging with an active, health-conscious community.
