Sentara expands innovative school-based telehealth clinics to Newport News Public Schools

Sentara Health is extending its innovative school-based telehealth clinics to Newport News Public Schools, bringing acute primary care services directly to students and staff—without ever leaving the school building.

Telehealth clinics at Newsome Park Elementary School and Stoney Run Elementary School began operating this fall. Each clinic pairs an on-site licensed practical nurse with Sentara providers (including nurse practitioners, physician assistants, and physicians) via secure virtual visits, ensuring convenient access to quality care during the school day.

“Newport News Public Schools is grateful for the opportunity to form a partnership with Sentara that brings quality healthcare to students at their own schools,” said Superintendent Dr. Michele Mitchell. “Telehealth clinicians working with our school nurses on site during school hours will help families obtain medical attention faster, reduce student absences and help to maintain a strong learning environment for all of our students.”

Newport News Public Schools is also looking to expand partnerships with healthcare-related firms across Hampton Roads. Organizations interested in supporting student and staff well-being through innovative school-based services are encouraged to connect with us to explore collaboration opportunities.
