Virginia Peninsula Workforce CTE Forum is Back Again!
Learning, partnering, and networking to give high school students more learning opportunities.
Hundreds of high school students have no idea what they are going to do after they graduate. They are the soon-to-be workers, and they do not know about the numerous career opportunities our economy needs them to fill. The Virginia Peninsula Workforce CTE Forum brings together businesses, community colleges/colleges, workforce development organizations and high school CTE specialists to focus on HQWB (High-Quality, Work-Based Learning) experiences.
For the second year, the Forum is scheduled for Tuesday, November 1, 2024, 8:30 a.m. -12:00p.m. at Bryant & Stratton College, Peninsula Town Center. Attendees will hear success stories for pre-apprenticeships, job shadowing, mentorships, internships and more from panelists, including James Templeton, President, Allfirst LLC, Regina McLean, Hiring and Student Affairs Manager, The Apprentice School, at Newport News Shipbuilding, and Sidnee McGee, Chief of Education and Intern Development, Virginia Spaceport. What makes this Forum unique is the breakout sessions where businesses from major industries supporting our economy participate in conversations to begin or expand their onsite programs for high school students.
The second Southside Forum was earlier this year. We encourage attendee representation from micro, small and large business owners to join us for the Virginia Peninsula Forum. The Forum Committee includes Justin Saunders, VP, Hampton Roads Chamber; Bob McKenna, CEO, Virginia Peninsula Chamber; Josh Sheffield, Hampton Roads Workforce Council; Carolene Goodwyn-Harris, Market Director Business Development, Bryant and Stratton College; Ben Clark, Director of Business Development, Centura College; Dr. Nikki Finley, Region 2, Virginia Department of Education CTE, and Cynthia Tyler, Chair, Portsmouth Division, Hampton Roads Chamber.
There is no charge for the 125 attendees though registration is required. Bryant and Stratton College will provide a continental breakfast.
