About Hampton Roads
Hampton Roads is located along the eastern coast of Virginia and North Carolina and consists of a number of cities and counties. This area is surrounded by several large bodies of water including the Chesapeake Bay, the Atlantic Ocean, and three main rivers (James, Nansemond, and Elizabeth). Within this location is a wealth of natural beauty, fertile land, businesses, and communities. Home to several military bases and ports, this thriving locale is ripe with opportunities for business growth.

Our Military
The Hampton Roads area is home to one of the world’s largest populations of military personnel, with approximately 83,000 active-duty military personnel. We are proud of the fact that the world’s largest naval base sits in our backyard. We are also proud of the Air Force, Army, Coast Guard, and Marine presence in our region and welcome all military personnel and their families.
Hampton Roads is home to the largest Naval base in the world and the only NATO command on U.S. soil. The Hampton Roads regional economy has become increasingly dependent upon defense spending over the past decade and the Chamber is proud to partner with a variety of veteran-owned businesses. Our dedication extends to the small business entrepreneur services we provide and the ways in which we support the various military installations in Hampton Roads.
