2023 Hampton Roads Biz Political Action Committee Candidate Endorsements

NORFOLK, VA. – The Hampton Roads Chamber is firmly committed to serving as an impactful advocate, powerful economic partner and regional collaborator. Advocating on the issues that affect the business environment is among the most important components of the Chamber’s work. We recognize, however, that in order to achieve success in the legislative environment, we need strong business-friendly leaders serving in elected office as partners.

To complement the Chamber’s work in the policy environment, the Chamber also operates a political action committee (PAC), HRBizPAC. Funded and led by Chamber members with staff support, HRBizPAC is focused on supporting issues and candidates for state office who are aligned with the Chamber’s public policy positions. The PAC is not affiliated with any political party, but rather is driven by individual action, commitment and leadership on the issues that are most important to our members.

Virginia voters will be selecting who will fill all 100 seats of the Virginia House of Delegates and 40 seats of the Virginia Senate between now and election day on November 7, 2023 (note early voting is now underway). Redistricting, retirements, primary losses and other factors will lead to unprecedented change in the General Assembly when the 2024 legislative session convenes in January.

In preparation for the upcoming elections, the HRBizPAC met to consider candidates for endorsement. In evaluating those running for office, a number of factors were particularly important this year, including:

  • Commitment to protect Virginia’s Right-to-Work law;
  • Fiscal discipline with respect to the state budget;
  • Support for veterans, including workforce development; and
  • Visible support/leadership on other specific Hampton Roads Chamber initiatives.

The PAC also considered voting history (where available), access and engagement with the Chamber, and leadership positions and roles served on key committees/subcommittees.

After thoughtful consideration, the Hampton Roads Chamber’s HRBizPAC is proud to announce its endorsement of the following individuals. We know these leaders will continue to work with the business community to support policies that promote a positive business climate and economic growth and development.
