Group of 14 Hampton Roads and Outer Banks Area Girl Scouts Honored with Girl Scout Gold Award- Highest Achievement in Girl Scouts
Girl Scouts Who AMAZE Celebration honors young changemakers
On June 1, 2024 Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast (GSCCC) honored 14 young leaders during the Girl Scouts Who AMAZE Celebration annual youth awards celebration with the prestigious Girl Scout Gold Award, the highest honor a youth member can receive. This year’s ceremony was held this year at the L. Douglas Wilder Performing Arts Center in Norfolk. At this inspiring celebration, GSCCC recognized Girl Scouts who have led the Hampton Roads community, and beyond, towards a brighter future by earning Girl Scouts’ highest awards—the Girl Scout Gold, Silver, and Bronze Awards. From creating literacy enrichment programs to protecting our environment, this year’s honorees proved that there is no challenge too big or need too small for a Girl Scout to tackle.
Welcomes were given by the President of Norfolk State University Dr. Javaune Adams-Gaston and by Norfolk City Council Member Andria McClellan. Gold Award Girl Scout alum Sarah Buck, Senior Manager Public Affairs – Market Expansion for Cox Communications, emceed the event.
During the event, GSCCC recognized 14 Gold Award Girl Scouts, more than 100 Silver Award Girl Scouts and 150 Bronze Award Girl Scouts. Each Gold Award Girl Scout was also honored with a Girl Scout Lifetime Membership made possible by the Helen Kattwinkel Lifetime Membership Endowment fund. Following the presentation of the highest awards, GSCCC Board Chair Carolyn Pittman announced several special Council recognitions. Gold Award Girl Scout Paige Gregory of Virginia Beach received the Maylea Beasley Love & Laughter Scholarship and Gold Award Girl Scout Kendal Keough of Williamsburg received the She Believes She Can, So She Does scholarship.
Girl Scouts of the Colonial Coast would like to offer their thanks to Norfolk State University for hosting the event along with the following supporters and sponsors: Fulton Bank; Wall, Einhorn, & Chernitzer; and Wegmans.
