WINKS - With INtentional Kindness and Support

Founded by brain tumor survivor, Samaria “Sam” Hunter, and her radiation oncologist, Dr. Allan Thornton, WINKS- With INtentional Kindness and Support is an all-volunteer 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization serving brain tumor patients and their families.
• WINKS is the only local nonprofit organization focused solely on brain tumor patients and caregivers in the Hampton Roads, Virginia area.
• WINKS’ mission is to enhance the quality of life for brain tumor patients and caregivers, to ensure that no journey is traveled alone. • WINKS provides emotional, financial, logistical, and informational support services through its Empathy in Action program.
• WINKS’ vision is to lift the burdens for brain tumor patients and their caregivers, so they can focus on the fight.
• WINKS provides urgent funds requests for medical copays and transportation
• WINKS provides needs-based grants to qualifying brain tumor patients and/or caregivers
• WINKS partners with local medical facilities to distribute Brain Tumor Power Packs to newly diagnosed patients and their families, empowering them to make informed decisions from the beginning of their journeys.
• WINKS facilitates quarterly support groups, offers one-on-one mentoring, and provides resource connections for brain tumor patients and their families.
• WINKS has provided over $45,000 in Empathy in Action grants, urgent funds requests, and Brain Tumor Power Packs.
